Compare Two Instagram Follower Lists

This tool also works as a general Instagram list comparison tool - paste or upload any two follower or following lists to compare them, not just your own. Compare a fresh export against an older one to track unfollowers over time, or check two different accounts side by side.

Upload or paste both lists above to see results.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I download my Instagram followers and following list?
Open Instagram → tap your profile → ☰ → Settings and privacy → Account Center → Your information and permissions → Download your information, then:
  1. Select your account
  2. Choose Some of your information
  3. Tick Followers and following
  4. Set the format to JSON
  5. Tap Create files
Instagram will email you a download link within a few minutes to a few hours.
What files do I need to upload?
For the current Instagram export format (JSON), you need two files: followers_1.json (people who follow you) and following.json (people you follow). Both are found in the followers_and_following folder of your Instagram data archive. If you have an older archive, the equivalent HTML files (followers.html and following.html) also work - the tool auto-detects the format.
Is it safe to upload my Instagram data? Will it be stored anywhere?
Yes, completely safe. No password or login is required, nothing is ever uploaded to a server, and the account you're checking is never notified. All processing happens locally in your browser - you can verify this yourself: turn off your internet after the page loads and the tool still works perfectly.
Does this work with the old Instagram HTML export format?
Yes. If you have an older Instagram data archive containing followers.html and following.html, just upload those - the tool detects the HTML format automatically and parses it correctly. Instagram switched from HTML to JSON exports around mid-2022, but old archives are still usable.
How do I find out who doesn't follow me back on Instagram?
To see who unfollowed you or doesn't follow you back on Instagram: download your data archive, upload the followers_1.json and following.json files here, and get instant results - no password, no login, and no notification is ever sent to the account you're checking.
Why might some accounts show as 'not following back' when they actually do?
Instagram data exports can lag by a few hours. Accounts that followed you very recently, or changes made after you requested the export, won't be reflected. For the most accurate results, request a fresh export and use it immediately. Protected (private) accounts that you've sent a follow request to but haven't been accepted yet will also appear in your following list.
Can I paste usernames directly without uploading a file?
Yes. Type or paste usernames directly into the textarea under either panel, one per line. You can also mix methods - upload a file for one panel and paste manually for the other.
How is this different from third-party Instagram unfollow apps?
Third-party apps that connect directly to your Instagram account violate Instagram's Terms of Service and can result in your account being restricted or banned. This tool requires no login, no OAuth permissions, and no connection to Instagram whatsoever - it only reads the static export file you already downloaded from your own account settings.
Does this work for accounts with millions of followers?
Yes. Your following list is always manageable - Instagram limits every account to 7,500 people they can follow. For followers, Instagram's data export caps the list size regardless of account size, so the tool handles whatever Instagram actually provides in your archive.
Can I compare two Instagram follower lists?
Yes. The tool auto-detects the HTML and JSON export formats, and you can also paste usernames or profile URLs directly into either panel. Upload any two follower or following lists - your own exports from different dates, or lists from two different accounts - and compare them instantly.
Is this an Instagram unfollowers tracker?
Yes, it works as one. Save your followers and following exports today, then compare a new export against the saved one later to see exactly who unfollowed you. Everything runs in your browser - no login, no app permissions, and nothing is ever uploaded to a server.
Does this tool work for Threads followers?
Yes. When you download your Instagram data from Meta Accounts Center, the export also includes your Threads followers and following as JSON files in a separate Threads folder. Upload those files here the same way and the checker works identically for Threads.
Can I compare two HTML lists like followers.html and following.html?
Yes. If your export came in the older HTML format, upload followers.html and following.html directly - the tool auto-detects the format and compares the two HTML lists exactly like JSON. See our guide to the HTML vs JSON export formats for details.
Is there a version of this tool for TikTok?
Yes - the TikTok Follower Checker does the same comparison with TikTok's user_data.json export: not following back, new followers, and mutual followers.
Can I use this to compare Instagram lists directly, like comparing followers between accounts?
Yes. Upload or paste any two Instagram lists - followers, following, or usernames from two different accounts or two different dates - and get an instant comparison of who's shared, who's only in one list, and who's new. It's the same list-comparison engine behind our Compare 2 Lists tool, built specifically for Instagram's export format.
Can I use a list comparison tool to check my Instagram followers?
Yes. This page runs a full Instagram list comparison in your browser - paste or upload your followers and following exports (or even plain username lists) and it instantly shows who doesn't follow you back, who's new, and who you both follow. No login, no app permissions, and nothing is uploaded anywhere. If you'd rather compare your Instagram follower list against a different set of usernames, the general-purpose Compare 2 Lists tool works with any plain text list too.
Do I need to unzip my Instagram download first?
Instagram sends your data as a ZIP file. Unzip it on your computer or phone first, then upload the individual followers_1.json and following.json files from inside the followers_and_following folder (or the .html equivalents for older exports) - this tool doesn't read the .zip archive directly, just the files inside it.
How do I compare my Instagram followers and following lists?
Upload or paste your followers and following lists and the tool compares them instantly, with no login needed. You get three results: Not Following You Back (you follow them, they do not follow you), New Followers (they follow you, you do not follow them back), and Mutual (you both follow each other). It works with the JSON files (followers_1.json and following.json) or the older HTML files (followers.html and following.html), and the format is detected automatically.
What is the difference between followers and following on Instagram?
Your followers are the people who follow you, and your following list is the people you follow. Comparing the two shows who is not following you back, who you are not following back, and who you follow mutually. Instagram keeps them in two separate files in your data download, which is why the checker asks for both lists.
Can I see who doesn't follow me back on Instagram without an extension?
Yes. This tool compares your official Instagram data export locally in your browser, so you don't need a browser extension, a login, or your password. Extensions that read your followers usually run inside your logged-in Instagram session, which the export method avoids entirely. Download your data from Instagram, upload followers_1.json and following.json, and the not-following-back list appears instantly.
